But since New Jerseyans are passionate about visiting ALL different parts of our wonderful coastline, starting in 2016, individual victors from NJ’s four coastal counties (Atlantic, Cape May, Monmouth,  and Ocean) were ultimately recognized.

Starting today, fans get to choose their favorite local “hotspots” from a list of all the amazing beaches throughout NJ’s four coastal counties – Atlantic, Cape May, Monmouth, and Ocean. The New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium will announce the winners around the July Fourth holiday.

Debuting in 2008 as New Jersey’s “Top Ten Beaches,” the survey was designed to encourage a little “friendly” competition and camaraderie between popular Jersey Shore communities along the sandy coast.

Now in its tenth year, the poll was recently rebranded “Favorite Beaches” to diversify results so that ALL areas of the Garden State’s gorgeous oceanfront were recognized. An “overall” victor is still announced, and Ocean City, NJ has remained undefeated champ over the past decade. But will that impressive winning streak end this year? You decide!

During the spring and early summer, Jersey Shore enthusiasts are invited to cast a vote for their favorite beach communities throughout four different counties.

The results of the survey were historically announced each year just before Memorial Day Weekend at the NJSGC’s State of the Shore Media Event, a premier gathering of coastal experts and state officials. In 2015, winners were instead revealed just before Independence Day, to encourage more voter participation during the Jersey Shore’s most popular time of the year.

Check out the winners of the Top Ten Beaches title from 2008, 2009, 2010, 20112012, 2014 and 2015. In 2013, in recognition of the devastating impacts of Superstorm Sandy, rivalries were put on hold and the survey focused instead on sharing images and memories of the Jersey Shore.

Finally, in 2016 the “Top Ten” title was revised so that voters had more variety, taking into account the vast beauty of NJ’s wondrous coastline. With nearly 10,000 votes cast, the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium revealed the winners in Ocean City last June. The two overall favorite beaches were longtime reigning champion Ocean City and Wildwood Crest.

Be sure to share this year’s survey with family and friends, and stay tuned for the official results later this summer!

2016 New Jersey’s Favorite Beach Poll Results Announced

If it is summertime, you can be pretty sure that most New Jersey residents have plans to make it to the beach. And with so many miles of wonderful coastline, why wouldn’t they? Whether it’s for a day trip or a whole week, New Jersey beaches are prime locations for summer fun in our great outdoors.

This poll was created in 2008 as the New Jersey’s Top Ten Beaches Survey to encourage stewardship and pride in the state’s beaches while promoting a little healthy competition between New Jersey’s favorite beach towns. It is a way to celebrate everything there is to love about the Jersey Shore. We’ve conducted this poll since 2008 to call attention to New Jersey’s amazing beaches. Over time we’ve learned a thing or two — mostly that New Jerseyans are passionate about all the beaches up and down our coast. So, in order to better recognize every inch of our wonderful coastline, this year we will recognize a number one beach in each of New Jersey’s four coastal counties as well as a favorite beach overall.

This year after nearly 10,000 votes cast in a public poll, New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium revealed the winners in Ocean City, the defending champion of the poll.

Ocean Fun Days 2017 Draws Thousands to Island Beach State Park and Sandy Hook

Celebrating its fourteenth year, Ocean Fun Days drew a crowd of thousands this past weekend (May 20-21), as attendees both young and old partook in hours of nonstop fun and interactive education.

Despite a slight chill in the air on Saturday at Island Beach State Park in Seaside Park (NJ), display tables were jam-packed with individuals eager to learn more about coastal stewardship and energy conservation, among several other exciting environmental subjects. The release of diamondback turtle hatchlings into their natural habitat (hosted by Project Terrapin and the Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science), was a sight that couldn’t be missed, and will likely become a favorite OFD memory for years to come.

The sun evoked smiles and laughter at Sandy Hook on Sunday, where a few lucky participants were crowned “claw” winners during the popular fiddler crab races. NOAA scientists also offered a rare glimpse into what wonders take place at the James J. Howard Marine Sciences Laboratory.

Over 50 exhibitors presented at this year’s event, including the American Littoral Society, Clean Ocean Action, NJDEP Division of Parks and Forestry, Rutgers Cooperative Extension/Water Resources Program, and the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Other activities included seining, bird walks, beachcombing, and tours of Sandy Hook’s legendary Lighthouse and Fort Hancock Battery Gunnison.

Ocean Fun Days is presented by founding sponsor New Jersey Natural Gas, in partnership with New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium, Asbury Park Press, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry, National Park Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The 2015 Top 10 Beaches

More than 12,000 votes were cast for New Jersey’s favorite beaches in 2015. Ocean City took the top spot for the second consecutive year, and Cape May beaches once again dominated the annual survey. The poll started 2008 to foster competition between the state’s beach towns. The results of the poll are used throughout the year. For example, when NJ.com reported on TripAdvisor’s declaration that the Wildwoods are the top destination on the rise this past December, the strong performance of Wildwood, Wildwood Crest and North Wildwood in the survey was cited as a possible reason for the ranking.

Update: Voting for New Jersey’s Favorite Beach begins May 2! Visit here for more information.
