Scout Programs

Discover the science of the shore, have fun, and earn a scout badge while exploring the habitats of Sandy Hook.  New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium (NJSGC) is pleased to offer the following programs that combine the wonders of the sea with scout badge requirements.

Girl Scout Badge Programs Scouts BSA Badge Programs Scout Field Trips

  • NJSGC instructors will conduct all activities for each program reserved. Please consult your Scout Handbook for complete badge descriptions and requirements.
  • NJSGC scout programs run year-round.
  • Cub Scout and Girl Scout badge programs: These classes are 2 hours long. See the Scouts BSA and Girl Scout Badge Programs pages for descriptions. The fee is $145.00 per group (up to 8 participants). Additional scout/participants are $14.50 each, up to a maximum of 20 participants per group. Adults are free. These programs can be scheduled on weekdays between 3:00 – 6:30 pm (earlier on school holidays) during the school year.
  • Scout Field Trips: These programs are 2 hours long. See the Scout Field Trips page for descriptions. Fee is $145.00 per group (up to 8 participants). Additional scout/participants are $14.50 each, up to a maximum of 20 participants per group. Adults are free. These programs can be scheduled after school on weekdays between 3:00 – 6:30 pm (earlier on school holidays) during the school year.
  • Girl Scout It’s Your Planet, Love It! Journeys: The Brownie Wonders of Water and the Junior Get Moving Journeys are both 4-hour programs. The Daisy Journey, Between Earth and Sky, is a 3-hour program. See the Girl Scout Badge Programs page for descriptions. The fee for all Journeys is $225 per group (up to 8 scouts/participants). Additional scouts are $22.50 each, up to a maximum of 20 scouts. Adults are free. These programs are only scheduled on weekends from early April through mid-November, except for July and August.
  • Scouts BSA Oceanography: This is a 4-hour program. See the Scouts USA Badge Programs page for description. The fee for this program is $375 per group (up to 10 Boy Scouts). Additional scouts are $37.50 each, up to a maximum of 20 scouts. Adults are free. Non-scout participants are not eligible for these programs. These programs can be scheduled on weekends from early April through mid-November, except for July and August.
  • Scouts BSA Environmental Science: This is 5-hour program. See the Scouts USA Badge Programs page for description. The fee for this program is $375 per group (up to 10 Boy Scouts). Additional scouts are $37.50 each, up to a maximum of 20 scouts. Adults are free. A non-refundable $75.00 deposit is required to hold your scheduled date once your reservation is confirmed. The balance of the program fee is due 3 weeks prior to the program start date. These programs can be scheduled on weekends from early April through mid-November, except for July and August.
  • Scout programs accommodate a maximum of 20 scouts per group. Each group will be led by a NJSGC instructor. All children in attendance for programs must pay and will be considered participants.
  • Programs are scheduled based upon troop requested dates/time. Two-hour programs are scheduled after school on weekdays between 3:00 – 6:30 pm (earlier on school holidays) during the school year. All other longer programs (Girl Scout Journeys, all Scouts BSA classes) can only be scheduled on weekends during the school year from 10a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • NJSGC’s scout badge and field trip programs are available for a maximum of 20 scouts on weekends and after school. However, larger groups may be accommodated depending upon availability. Contact the Scout Programs Coordinator for information.
  • All materials and equipment are included for each program. Scouts may wish to bring their own snacks and drinks. NJSGC does not provide merit badges, but does give Fun Patches to participants.
  • All troop leaders and adult chaperones may participate in scout programs at no cost. However they will be expected to be of assistance to our instructors.
  • Registrations for scout programs will be accepted but the date cannot be considered guaranteed until confirmed by NJSGC.
  • All NJSGC programs take place rain or shine. Programs may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. In the rare event that we must cancel a program, a full refund will be issued. If you must cancel a scheduled program, you must notify us at least two weeks in advance to reschedule or to receive a refund minus your deposit.
  • If your troop or den has less than 10 scouts, considering booking a program with another scout group. Siblings and friends may also be invited to participate in NJSGC scout programs at the same rate. We are also happy to teach a smaller group!
