Congressman Frank Pallone to Present Prestigious Fisheries and Aquaculture Scholarships on June 9th, at Sandy Hook

(Sandy Hook, NJ) — Congressman Frank Pallone (NJ-6th District) will be at Sandy Hook’s Historic Fort Hancock District at 12:15 pm on Sunday June 9th, 2013 for a special presentation of the 2013 Stew Tweed Fisheries and Aquaculture Scholarships during Ocean Fun Days an annual education-oriented ecotourism event coordinated by the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium (NJSGC) which also sponsors the Stew Tweed Scholarship competition.

The scholarship commemorates Stew Tweed’s lifelong service to New Jersey’s aquaculture and commercial fishing industries, his devotion to marine conservation and coastal education in the Delaware Bay, and his advocacy of the ecological and economic importance of the eastern oyster.  Stew was New Jersey’s first Marine Extension Agent and served in that capacity for 27 years who passed away in February 2007.  The scholarship was established and first awarded in 2008.

WHEN:  Sunday, June 9th, 2013, at 12:15 PM during Ocean Fun Days, NJSGC annual event celebrating the state’s marine and coastal resources.

SPECIAL NOTE:  Congressman Pallone will also be receiving a special recognition award from NJSGC presented by its Executive Director Claire Antonucci and Ocean Fun Days Founding Partner New Jersey Natural Gas Director of Community and Customer Relations, Thomas Hayes.  The COASTodian Award is a semi-annual recognition reserved for selected leaders from both the political and private sectors to acknowledge continued commitment and contributions to the marine and coastal environment.

From Garden State Parkway Heading South:

Garden State Parkway South to Exit 117. Take Route 36 East, following signs for Sandy Hook Unit of Gateway National Recreational Area, approximately twelve (12) miles.

From Garden State Parkway Heading North:

Garden State Parkway North to Exit 105. Take Route 36 (Joline Ave.) to Ocean Boulevard intersection Turn left at traffic light to follow Route 36 (Ocean Boulevard); go approximately eight (8) miles. Follow signs for Sandy Hook Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area

Once in the Park:

Drive straight ahead on main road approximately four (4) miles to historic Fort Hancock. At the Nike Missile Monument (Guardian Park) bear right onto Magruder Road. Go one-tenth (0.1) mile and turn left into the designated parking lot areas.
